1. Menjadi Cahaya di Hari Kiamat KelakDari Amr bin Syu’aib yang dikatakan dari ayahnya dan kakeknya bahwa Rasulullah SAW bersabda,

Berdasarkan dalil dan hadist tersebut, makan lebih saat kita telah memiliki uban jangan mencabutnya.

2. Mengingatkan Akan Dekatnya AjalSelain nantinya akan menjadi cahaya di hari akhir, di dalam Al-Quran juga disebutkan mengenai uban seperti berikut ini:
أَوَلَمْ نُعَمِّرْكُم مَّا يَتَذَكَّرُ فِيهِ مَن تَذَكَّرَ وَجَاءَكُمُ النَّذِيرُ ۖ فَذُوقُوا فَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِن نَّصِيرٍ
“Bukankah Kami telah memanjangkan umurmu untuk dapat berpikir bagi orang yang mau berpikir, padahal telah datang kepadamu seorang pemberi peringatan? Maka rasakanlah (azab Kami), dan bagi orang-orang zhalim tidak ada seorang penolong pun …” (QS. Fathir ayat 37)
Dalam ayat tersebut, yang dimaksud dengan ‘peringatan’ ialah munculnya uban pada rambut. Karena uban menurut Islam akan muncul pada rambut seseorang yang sudah berusia senja.
Oleh sebab itu, uban dapat dijadikan sebagai pengingat manusia bahwa ia sudah berada di penguhujung kehidupan yang kita semua tidak tahu kecuali Allah SWT.
3. Menjadikan Seseorang Tidak Lagi SerakahUban yang mucul pada rambut kamu mengingatkan bahwa kita sebagai manusia tidak akan selamanya hidup di dunia ini.
Waktu kita di dunia sangatlah sebentar jika dibandingkan dengan di akhirat yang kekal alias selamanya. Sufyan Ats-Tsauri mengatakan,
“Zuhud terhadap dunia akan memupuskan Angan-angan kosong. Ia tak lagi berlebihan dalam hal makanan dan pakaian”.
4. Mendorong Untuk Terus Memperbanyak Amal SholehSeiring mulai bermunculannya uban, maka sudah sewajarnya kita memperbanyak amal saleh, ibadah dan melakukan hal positif khususnya dalam menjalankan perintah-Nya.
Kita juga harus semakin memperbaiki hubungan antara sesama manusia dan hubungan kita dengan Allah SWT.
5. Memancarkan Sikap Tabah dan WibawaSeseorang yang telah memililki uban umumnya akan lebih berwibawa dan lebih tabah dalam menajalankan kehidupan. Karena usia yang tidak lagi muda, dianjurkan untuk memiliki sikap yang lebih tenang.
Hal tersebut juga yang mendasari mengapa Islam mengajarkan kita untuk menghormati orang yang lebih tua. Abu Musa Al-‘Asy’ari ra berkata bahwa Rasulullah SAW bersabda,
“Sesunguhnya termasuk dari pengagungan kepada Alloh ialah menghormati orang muslim yang sudah beruban (orang tua).” (HR. Abu Dawud dari hadits Abu Musa ra. Hadits hasan)
